The official Twitter account for the upcoming The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup anime-only revealed its start date. The cast members of the Australian team were also announced.
The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup – Anime Release Date
Accordingly, the new anime in the legendary franchise will start on July 6, 2022, on Japanese TV. You can find the post about it further down in the article.
The following cast members have been announced for the Australian team:
- Masamichi Kitada as Jean Fitzgerald
- Shunsuke Takeuchi as Chris Hoppman
- Yu Miyazaki as Milky Milman
- Genki Okawa as Mac McGregor
- Keito Okuyama as Noa J Dorgias
Keiichiro Kawaguchi (a.k.a. ISLAND ) returns to the director’s chair after The Prince of Tennis II: Hyotei vs. Rikkai Game of Future, directing the project at studios KAI and MSC, which already have experience with the OVA. The screenplay will again be written by Mitsutaka Hirota (Anime-Gataris, Nanbaka) and Akiharu Ishii (Blood+, Ultramarine Magmell) will take care of the character design.
Singer Yoshiki Ezaki and hip-hop duo Bleecker Chrome collaborate on the series’ opening titled “I can fly.” Meanwhile, the ending song “Dear Friends” comes from TeniPri Artistars.
Takeshi Konomi published the original edition of The Prince of Tennis manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1999 to 2008. The original manga inspired a television anime, two anime feature films and a short film, various OVA projects, a live-action film, a live-action TV series in China, and a popular stage musical series from 2001-2005. The manga was also published in Germany in 2006 by Tokyopop. The series consisted of 42 volumes in total.
In 2009, Konomi launched the manga series The New Prince of Tennis in Shueisha’s Jump SQ magazine. The story picks up after the national tournament when Ryōma joins a select group of junior high school players at Japan’s top under-17 training camp.
